I'm like a shark. I've got to be constantly moving.

It's been a 'little' while since I've blogged. I've discovered that time is a thief in the night: it takes all your available time away from you while you sleep. One day you're celebrating the beginning of the year; the next day you're preparing for the end of it. Why do I have a shark? Recently my students were able to go on two trips two days in a row-a very rare and unusual set of events (that will probably never happen again, unfortunately. :( ) One day they visited the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach. The next day we went to the Sandoway House Nature Center. Both were incredibly educational but I felt there was more to be learned at Sandoway: watching sharks get fed, petting turtles, learning about the ocean and its inhabitants, etc... Even though I chose a 'scary' looking shark from the moving "Finding Nemo" sharks aren't a human hungry as people think they are. One interesting fact is that more farmers are fatally harmed by their pigs than people are by sharks! Wow! I never knew that! The class was able to see the exoskeleton of a tarantula after it sheds it (something else I learned). Fascinating! Because of FCAT one of the parents of one of my students has been coming in and doing various activities with them. It has definitely helped take the wiggles and energy down to a level that my little ones have been able to handle the "no movement" rule during FCAT.
As is the case at the end of the year, changes take place and one must accept the changes or move on. Many teachers face this each and every year (something most non-teachers don't even think about). To say I will miss my class from this year is an understatement! I have enjoyed working with them, communicating with their parents, and teaching in an area I truly believe in and love: gifted education. If I could stay with my students one more year, that would be wonderful. However, as I stated, things must change. :( As the year draws closer to an end, my blog will too.
