One month. That's how long it's been since I've posted anything here. :-( It demonstrates to me how fast this year is zooming by us.
I'm uploading March's calendar that was sent home. In addition I will add reading lists to the reading level pages so you have an idea of what to look for the next time you visit a bookstore or library. (Some levels may have two lists.)
This week will be different because of T.A.P. Day, homework changes and spelling assessment switches. I'm also going to begin another round of Running Reading Record assessments. Students in a "regular" setting need to be on an "E" level, independent by the end of the year. Children in a "gifted" setting should use that as a measuring stick of where they should be at minimally. While there is no exact, students in a gifted unit should be above and beyond a level E in reading by the end of the year. In math, our class is and it's being demonstrated by having successfully completed the kindergarten math book. (We'll now be doing 1st and 2nd grade math skills. Everybody is sooooo excited about it!) What if your child is 'only' an E at the end of the year? Continue the 20 minutes/day reading routine to prevent what is called a "summer slide." A summer slide is when a child goes down in levels or forgets concepts over the summer because he/she hasn't been excercising his/her brain. :)
As stated, this week is different. Please refer to the email I sent to you on Friday, March 15th.
Any questions? Please write me. Email is the best way to communicate with me because written letters can get lost, not get to me, get damaged, etc... My students are very responsible and are capable of giving me notes or showing me the agenda; however, sometimes one or two forget to pass the message along. :)
Thank you and have a GREAT week!
