Ideas for Spelling-Take a Look and use what you wish!
Yes, there will be items sent home for spelling homework (tic-tac-toe boards, etc...) but I'm going to use this area to share OTHER spelling ideas. Feel free to use what I send home and/or what is here (sites, documents, etc...). Enjoy!

homework: what it's all about
- packet to go home on the second school day of the week (even if it isn't stapled)...typically, but not always, Tuesday
- homework is tied to what is being taught in class or WAS taught-a practice I have ALWAYS DONE AND ALWAYS WILL DO
- due one week from when it's assigned. Turned in one day after? LATE!
- possible assignments: 2-3 spelling, 1-2 reading, 1-2 math, science, social studies, enrichment, creativity, writing, and projects
- reading log: month long, due on the first day of the following month (depending on the day it falls on). LATE? Please write reason.
- questions, comments, concerns: PLEASE WRITE MRS MENGE. I CAN ANSWER YOUR CONCERNS BETTER THAN SOMEONE ELSE. :) Due to human reasons there may be times that the packet gets sent home late, unstapled or, at times, on different days. That is the exception, not the rule.
- The cover sheet is an organization tool. Please use it to your advantage.

Extra Credit Calendar
EXTRA CREDIT: I LOVE the website Teachers Pay Teachers. I find wonderful ideas and materials on there. I recently came across some ideas for projects and homework. To avoid changing the homework I will be adding an extra credit calendar for the month of February. The calendar has some really cool activities on it (create a valentine for your family; count how many stars you see in the sky). It also has practical ones (clean your room without being asked; practice writing and saying your phone number 5 times-a very important skill). By the time the calendar is due, your child will need to have done AT LEAST 10 ACTIVITIES. He/she can do more, but 10 is the minimum. Please staple any photos, papers, crafts, etc.. you can to the calendar when it gets turned in on March 1st.
Sooooo, what does your litte one get in return other than creative learning? Because we don't do grades, he/she will get to go to my famous treasure chest. Simply ask your child how it works (levels, beads, etc...). I'm sure your child will be more than willing to do the extra credit. Remember this is completely voluntary and your child will NOT be consequented if it isn't done.

fEBRUARY 2013 pROJECT
One of the more popular holidays in February is Valentine's Day. Children LOVE to bring in valentines, candy and have a celebration. Of course, I don't want to disappoint my students. To prepare for our celebration I will be assigning a fun project. Your child will be creating a Valentine's Day "mailbox." While I will upload ideas, let your little one's imagination soar. Please have them ready by February 13th so everybody can give an oral report (how it was made, why it was made, etc...). Feel free to take pictures as your child creates the project and I will upload them on this site. Enjoy!

February 12-26, 2013
Happy Valentines Day! If you read this section earlier you probably saw that I would be sending home two homework packets on February 12th. Instead of overwhelming you I decided to send the packet for February 12-19 on the 12th and the packet for February 19-26 on February 15th.
If you haven't done so already, please click here to see our pictures for some of the activities we did for the 100th day of school week. Over the rest of the month our homework and lessons in school will focus on Valentine's Day, President's Day and Black History Month. February is VERY BUSY! :)
I finished sending each parent an email and attached letter that tells you your child's current reading level and various links to pages on our site that take you to your child's own page, printable books, and the main reading page. When looking for a book there are several ways to go about it. Some publishers have the level right on the back. Other ones do not so you have to figure it out. I'm posting charts and how-tos to do that. Remember...your child must be able to comprehend for the book to be a right-fit. Keep coming back to our site as I'll be posting items to help you out. To make things easier I'll put anything dealing with reading here-the Reading Books and Activities section.
