Blogs...what are blogs? I remember when I first heard the word "blog" I couldn't quite understand what one was. I knew that it had something to do with "logging" your thoughts. Maybe, I thought, it was a "brain log." Then why wasn't it called a "brog"? Oh well, they're everywhere now! People have become famous (or infamous) because of blogs and YouTube. Teachers are NOTORIOUS for their blogs. Look at this site: Ms. Shopes Blog & Those She Follows. (I know Ms. Shope on a professional level.) Look to the right. Those are the blogs she follows. Wow! There are that many out there and I'm sure thousands more! Another popular site for teachers is called Teachers Pay Teachers (search for "Blog" there and see what you get. Over 10,000 hits!) I have one little confession to make. Follow-through. I'm not good at it. Good blogging means doing it almost every day. I've started many blogs but they've pretty much ended up on the dusty shelves called "Blog Memorial Gardens." Soooooo....even if I'm the only person reading my blog, I'm making a promise to face this challenge head on. I've done a pretty good job communicating with my students' parents via email (yay! They have email!). Now I have a blog WITHIN a website that will need updating. I'm crossing my fingers that I'll do a good job. Well, I can't really cross my fingers, can I? I can't type if I do that! :)
It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.
